Modeling Distributed Search via Social Insects
نویسنده
چکیده
Complex group behavior arises in social insects colonies as the integration of the actions of simple and redundant individual insects Adler and Gordon, 1992, Oster and Wilson, 1978]. Furthermore, the colony can act as an information center to expedite foraging Brown, 1989]. We apply these lessons from natural systems to model collective action and memory in a computational agent society. Collective action can expedite search in combinatorial optimization problems Dorigo et al., 1996]. Collective memory can improve learning in multi-agent systems Garland and Alterman, 1996]. Our collective adaptation integrates the simplicity of collective action with the pattern detection of collective memory to sig-niicantly improve both the gathering and processing of knowledge. As a test of the role of the society as an information center, we examine the ability of the society to distribute task allocation without any omnipotent centralized control.

A harmony search-based approach for real-time volt & var control in distribution network by considering distributed generations units
In recent decade, development of telecommunications infrastructure has led to rapid exchange of data between the distribution network components and the control center in many developed countries. These changes, considering the numerous benefits of the Distributed Generators (DGs), have made more motivations for distribution companies to utilize these kinds of generators more than ever before. ...
متن کاملContextualization, user modeling and personalization in the social web: from social tagging via context to cross-system user modeling and personalization
Social Web stands for the culture of participation and collaboration on the Web. Structures emerge from social interactions: social tagging enables a community of users to assign freely chosen keywords to Web resources. The structure that evolves from social tagging is called folksonomy and recent research has shown that the exploitation of folksonomy structures is beneficial to information sys...
متن کاملExplaining Job Searching Through Social Networking Sites: A Structural Equation Model Approach
This paper examines job searching among employed job seekers through the social networking sites. One hundred ninety survey questionnaires were distributed to employed job seekers who have used online social networking sites via the snowball sampling approach. The collected data were analysed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique via the Analysis of Moment Structure (AMOS 16) compu...
متن کاملLevy Distributed Search Behaviors for Mobile Target Locating and Tracking
We consider the problem of tracking visually identifiable mobile targets using a distributed system of mobile robots. We propose a behavior-based approach where mobile robots with limited sensory range use a search pattern observed in nature the Levy distributed search, to locate a mobile target. The Levy search pattern is inspired by the foraging pattern exhibited by social insects such as hon...
